Former Liberal Movement Party Chairman Eligijus Masiulis could have his parliamentary mandate revoked by Friday by the decision of the Central Electoral Commission and lose legal immunity.
The politician is then likely to face arrest. On Wednesday afternoon, the Central Electoral Commission will discuss Masiulis‘ own request to have his parliamentary mandate revoked.
Under the Commission procedures, Masiulis should participate in the meeting and explain his position, then the commission will vote on approving the request or not.
“There is no reason to reject Masiulis request. Commission’s role and competence is to check whether the member of the parliament is serious about his intentions and really wants to give up his Seimas mandate,” said Zenonas Vaigauskas, the Central Electoral Commission chairman.
