“Preparations have almost been completed and the physical construction should be started next year. So, investment work is going according to an earlier schedule. I believe the investment will ensure full energy security of the Baltic states – not only that of Lithuania but also of other Baltic states,” Tchorzewski told BNS after meeting with Lithuania’s Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiunas.
In his words, when it comes to overall energy security, Poland is doing its best to complete its tasks in time and “so far everything worked out.”
“Speaking about diversification of gas supplies, the Baltic Pipe project is also going as scheduled, the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie is being expanded (…). Consequently, we are coming closer to Poland’s full sovereignty in the gas field, which has caused various problems in the past. We will be able to share our experience and more with Lithuania in this sector,” said the Polish energy minister.
In Lithuania, the GIPL will stretch for 177 km. Earlier calculations suggest that the total value of the project is 558 million euros, with investments in Lithuania amounting to 136 million euros.
The project should be implemented 2.5 years later than the original plan – by the end of 2021.
