“The minister has been awarded with the high Lithuanian state decoration for her special merits to the fostering of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Germany, promotion of bilateral military cooperation, personal contribution and support to boosting Lithuania’s security,” the President’s Office has said in a comment to BNS.

Germany has this year send a few hundred troops to Lithuania to make the core of the international NATO battalion to be stationed in Lithuania. The military units are stationed in the Baltic states and Poland to deter Russia.

Lithuania has also decided to buy a considerable number of weaponry and military equipment from Germany, including Boxer infantry fighting vehicles and PZH2000 howitzers.
