Grybauskaitė to attend events marking Lithuania’s independence

Grybauskaitė says that the birthday of the state is a celebration for all Lithuania. According to her, traditional events of 16 February and original initiatives that will spread across Lithuania demonstrate gratefulness to people who dared to defend freedom and re-establish statehood. The president hopes that the celebration of independence will rally Lithuanians all over the globe.

On 15 February, relatives of signatories of the Independence Act will receive flowers from the president. Afterwards the flowers will be placed on signatories’ graves. Later, the president will participate at the Lithuanian National Prize award ceremony held at the White Hall of the Presidential Palace.

On 16 February, the president will pay respects to signatories of the Independence Act buried in Rasų Cemetery. Later, the president will bestow state decorations. At noon, the president will attend the solemn ceremony of raising Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian flags in Daukantas Square and will deliver a speech of congratulations. The Holy Mass will be sacrificed in Vilnius Cathedral afterwards.

In the evening, a concert under the patronage of the president, marking the restoration of the state, will take place at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society.
