Gulf states luring Lithuanian doctors with high salaries, perks

The Gulf State‘s recruitment drive for Lithuanian doctors took off early last year when it signed a deal with temporary employment and recruitment services provider Pharmanet in September to recruit doctors.

UAE authorities would like to recruit 300 doctors from Lithuania over the next two years, after signing a cooperation agreement with agency.

“UAE needs a wide range of doctors and other medical professionals. The placement would last up to 2 years,” said Aušra Staškevičienė, the head of Pharmanet.

“In Lithuania medics earn about €1,000 and nurses – about €400-500 per month. Interns in UAE can expect 10 times more than that. In addition, the country’s hospitals are equipped with the latest equipment,” she said.

The Gulf State made the move after conducting research that showed that there were a lot of well-trained doctors, as well as a high level of practical medicine in Lithuania. The number of highly qualified Lithuanian doctors successfully working in UAE was also a key factor in the move by the Gulf State.
