The proposal was put forward on Thursday during a discussion in the European Parliament’s Information Bureau.
Mr. Skvernelis said that the insurance rate should be several times higher. According to the minister “the car would practically become hardly affordable or the owner would have to pay heavy taxes”.
Mr. Skvernelis added that part of the tax revenue from the civil insurance is allocated to road safety improvements.
