Interwar Kaunas architecture may be granted European Heritage Label

Throughout 2014 the international panel of experts assessed 36 applications selected on national level and submitted to the European Commission by the European Union Member States who had joined the European Heritage Label initiative.

The experts prepared a report recommending the European Commission to grant the European Heritage Label to 16 sites or objects, including Lithuania’s application Kaunas of 1919-1940.

The European Heritage Label is awarded to sites located in the EU that have a key role in European history and culture as well as the building of the Union. The aim is to put the spotlight on common European heritage to strengthen citizens’ sense of belonging to the Union and to reinforce dialogue between cultures.
