Klaipėda port handled nearly 20 million tons of cargo in the first six months of this year – almost 5.7% more than in the same period last year.

Klaipėda remained the only port in the Baltic countries where cargo handling volumes grew. The port authority generated €28 million in revenue in the first six months of 2016 – nearly 7% more than during the same period last year.

Klaipėda State Seaport Authority Director Arvydas Vaitkus said neighbouring Baltic ports‘ handling decreased because Russia continues to direct its goods to national ports.

Klaipėda port good results were due to an increase in volumes of liquid cargo.
