“I can say that the terminal has today been turned in to a state commission, has been accepted by its members and the vessel can already enter the port and moor at the terminal,” Algirdas Butkevičius told reporters in Vilnius on Tuesday.

He assured that the tanker, named Independence, was protected while on its way to Lithuania.

“We have made thorough preparations for that. People who will be charged with security duties are in fact performing those functions already. They had special training, ranging from underwater security to external security, abroad,” Butkevičius said.

The LNG facility’s vessel, which is currently sailing near the shore of Denmark, will arrive in Klaipėda on 27 October.

The LNG facility will be opened officially on 3 December.
