Three Lithuanian citizens are charged with large-scale drug smuggling in the case to be heard by the Šiauliai Regional Court.

The Customs Criminal Service caught one of them with 5 kilograms of hashish in Šiauliai. The second Lithuanian was arrested in France with 27 kilograms of hashish and the third one is currently in prison in Spain for smuggling over 400 kilograms of hashish.

The authorities suspect that Albanian citizens were also involved in the smuggling ring.

The service closely cooperated with French and Spanish law-enforcement officials in the long-term investigation, the Customs said in a press release.

According to it, the international ring was involved in smuggling very large amounts of drugs from Spain to Germany and Scandinavia. Hashish or marijuana was usually transported by a truck driver from Šiauliai, identified only by his initials J.K.

The man, who worked for a Lithuanian haulage company, was promised a pay of 250 to 300 euros per kilogram smuggled, depending on the risk involved.
