Celebrating the European Mobility Week (16-22 September), the City of Bissen in Luxembourg will present a photographic exhibition titled “On the Move: A Photographic Exploration.” Featuring the works of photographers Ludo Segers and Kateryna Mostova, the exhibition showcases a diverse range of photographs mostly taken in Lithuania and Ukraine. Exploring various forms of mobility across a variety of settings, the exhibition opens on Saturday, September 14th, at the Centre Wonerbatti in Bissen.
“European Mobility Week is a time to reflect on our transport choices,” says Bissen City Councillor Georges Lucius, a driving force behind the exhibition. “What better way to encourage contemplation than through the power of art? During a previous event, I met Ludo Segers. We discussed the possibility of showcasing his work alongside a talented, up-and-coming artist. Katerina Mostova, a recent arrival from Ukraine, perfectly fit the bill.” Lucius continues, “Photography has the unique ability to capture fleeting moments and transform them into timeless stories.”
Photographer Ludo Segers is renowned for his captivating landscapes and cinematic cityscapes. His graphic design background fuelled a passion for visual storytelling. While the exhibition features some of his well-known works, alongside numerous new photographs specifically chosen for their connection to the theme of mobility.
“This photo exhibition is a visual journey through the heart of mobility,” Segers explains to The Lithuanian Tribune. “Daily commutes often hold unseen stories and fleeting moments. As photographers, we can offer viewers a fresh perspective on the world of mobility through our lenses.”
Kateryna Mostova, originally from eastern Ukraine, brings a distinctive dimension to the exhibition. Following the Russian invasion of Crimea and eastern Ukraine in 2014, she fled to Kyiv. In 2023, she found refuge in Luxembourg. Kateryna’s diverse photographic explorations showcase her experiences with mobility, both on foot and by various means of transportation. Her collection includes aerial views from the vast expanse of the Dubai desert to the serene villages of her homeland, Ukraine.
“Participating in this exhibition allows me to share my vision of mobility,” Mostova says. “Each image tells a story of movement, progress, and the essence of mobility captured through the lens of photography.”
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Ludo Segers’ photos at the exhibition will benefit LUkraine asbl, a Luxembourg non-profit organisation supporting Ukraine.
