The institutional ethics watchdog, VTEK, said that by heading Lietuvos Energija, the state-owned group of energy companies, and being the vice-president of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, a private business association, Misiūnas is possibly representing both public interest and private businesses.
“The Seimas Energy Commission chairman [Ričardas Sargūnas] has notified that Misiūnas, who is also the vice-president of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, is representing the interests of both consumers and business,” VTEK spokeswoman Eglė Ivanauskaitė told BNS on Wednesday.
Sargūnas says that although Lietuvos Energija is a profit-seeking group, it “indirectly” represents energy consumers’ interests. Heads of state-owned companies, he believes, should not be holding posts in the private sector at the same time.
Misiūnas says he does not believe there is any clash of interests. “I do not believe there’s any clash. There are ways to weigh all interests, identify the needs of all sides and find the best solutions,” Misiūnas told BNS.
“Since the investigation is on, we will cooperate and supply all required information about my activities at the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists and will wait for the conclusion.”
Misiūnas has been the CEO of Lietuvos Energija since July 2013. He was appointed the vice-president of the Confederation of Industrialists last September.
