“This means that the situation has improved,” Jauniškis told a news conference at the parliament on Monday when asked about absence of the Polish community’s links with the Russian Embassy in the latest report.

Asked to specify whether this meant that the links no longer existed or they were no longer very close, the security chief responded: “This means, they are not close.”

Last year, Lithuania’s intelligence agencies said that granting exclusive rights to the Polish community would make it possible for Russia or its groups of influence to demand analogous rights and, finally, an exclusive status for Russian communities in all three Baltic states.

The report then suggested that Russia’s objectives were proven by Russian embassy-coordinated political cooperation of Russian nationals with persons representing the Polish community of the Vilnius region.

This year’s report features no statements of this type.
