It was on Tuesday presented by Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis and received initial backing of 57 lawmakers, with two votes against and 32 abstentions. The proposed amendments will now go to parliamentary committees for further deliberation.
“Under the existing rules, for example, after the birth of a child, parents have to get a paper birth certificate and present its copies to a number of institutions. It’s an excessive demand for personal data as all information about a child’s birth can be received from registers,” the minister said.
