Lithuania elected to Council of International Telecommunications Union

New ITU management, members of the Council and the Radio Regulations Board have been elected at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference where around 2,000 delegates participate from all over the world. Houlin Zhao was elected the new Secretary-General of ITU, Lithuania’s Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) reports.

Leader of Lithuanian delegation, Director of the RRT Feliksas Dobrovolskis introduced the activity priorities of Lithuania at ITU. As a member of ITU Council, Lithuania will substantially participate in ITU decision making as regards solving the problems of radio frequencies’ management, strive for efficient planning and use of resources, share its best practise in fostering development of modern broadband networks, ensuring the reliable services and in other areas.

Election of Lithuania to ITU Council will ensure succession of Lithuania’s representation at ITU and allow introducing widely Lithuania’s achievements in development of telecommunications, especially broadband communication.

ITU management and the Council have been elected for a four-year term and will start working on 1 January 2015.
