Neverovič informed Latvian Economics Minister Vjačeslavs Dombrovskis that a detailed plan for the establishment, function, and structure of such a company will be available for review by mid-September.

“We see the interim project company as the most acceptable option to help solve outstanding issues and facilitate discussions with the Lithuanian government,” the Lithuanian minister said in a press release.

The Energy Ministry and Japan’s Hitachi on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding for joint actions to establish an interim project company, which Latvia and Estonia are invited to join.

Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma said during her visit to Vilnius last February that Latvia had a positive opinion about the Visaginas project but was waiting for economic estimates.

Lithuanian voters did not back the project in a non-binding referendum in October 2012.
