Lithuania is negotiating with Japan over export of beef

“The Japanese highly assess Lithuania’s food and veterinary supervision system. We have built for ourselves the image of a reliable partner when in 2012 Food Standard Australia New Zealand officially recognised Lithuania as the lowest risk country as regards bovine spongiform encephalopathy and opened its market to beef from Lithuania,” said Dr Jonas Milius, director of the VMVT.

Another strong argument was the recognition of testing carried out by the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute (NMVRVI) as equivalent to testing carried out in Japan. On 1 April 2014 the NMVRVI was included in the list of Japan’s accredited foreign analytical institutions.
