The Foreign Ministry registered on Monday draft legislation necessary for his appointment.

The diplomat is to take up his new position on September 3.

Pranevičius has served as Lithuania’s consul general in New York since 2015. He has in the past headed the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry’s European Union Department and has held various other positions at the ministry, and has worked as second secretary at Lithuania’s permanent representation to the EU.

The post of Lithuania’s ambassador to India has been vacant since Laimonas Talat-Kelpša ended his term of office on April 6.

Lithuanian ambassadors are appointed by the president on the government’s recommendation and with approval from the parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
