Lithuania must streamline its higher education network

“The higher education network needs to be streamlined. The number of students has fallen by one-third over seven years, but the network has remained unchanged,” Mindaugas Lingė, the president’s advisor on internal affairs, told the Žinių Radijas radio station.

In his words, the existing system is inefficient as spending on studies is declining, but spending on administration is increasing.

The Peasants and Greens, which triumphed in last month’s parliamentary elections, have so far been cautious in commenting on calls to cut the number of universities.
