“Lithuania does not recognize the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia, therefore, it is very important for us to keep you as the honorary consul of Lithuania in Crimea,” Bekešius said at a meeting with Honorary Consul Sergey Petrichenko on Thursday.

The vice-minister emphasized that Petrichenko’s experience in Crimea and his links would help Lithuania maintain cultural ties with Ukrainian citizens living in the region.

According to the press release, Petrichenko was appointed as Lithuania’s honorary consul in Ukraine’s southern city of Simferopol in 2005. In March 2014, his family moved to the city of Dnipr where he continues his work as honorary consul.

Lithuania has 10 honorary consuls in Ukraine.
