Aleksandras Černovas, the president of the Lithuanian Chess Federation, said the decision to back Kasparov was made by merely a few votes at a general meeting on Sunday.
“We had a quorum. We had a secret ballot, and the decision made by a close vote was to support Garry Kasparov,” Černovas told BNS.
In his words, the decision was made after a lengthy discussion.
FIDE will hold presidential election in Norway in August.
