“The European Commission’s initial proposal to cut funding for countries demonstrating the best results of economic development is unacceptable for us,” she told BNS Lithuania.
In her words, Lithuania will try to negotiate with other EU member states and the European Parliament for the support to be cut less.
“It’s only an initial proposal. Negotiations will start and we’ll seek a more gradual cut in support to fast-developing regions,” the vice minister said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the EC proposed allocating 6.359 billion euros to Lithuania’s regional development in the European Union’s budget from 2021, down 12.9 percent from 7.3 billion euros in the 2014-2020 budget.
