Lithuanian and Polish presidents to have first face-to-face meeting

The bilateral meeting is scheduled in Dubrovnik, which will host a forum for the discussion of the Adriatic-Baltic-Black initiative.

The face-to-face was initiated by Grybauskaitė, her spokeswoman Daiva Ulbinaitė told BNS on Wednesday.

The Lithuanian President’s Office said the two presidents would discuss energy and military cooperation, bilateral strategic projects, cooperation within the European Union (EU) and NATO, the geopolitical situation, security threats for Lithuania, Poland and the rest of the region, the post-Brexit situation in Europe.

Nominated by the conservative Law and Justice party, Duda was sworn in as Poland’s president on August 6 last year. Duda chose Estonia for his first foreign visit.

Exchange of official visits between Vilnius and Warsaw was suspended in past years due to the different stances countries hold on the situation of ethnic minorities.

According to the press release, the Dubrovnik meeting will address the possibilities of regional cooperation among the Adriatic, the Baltic and the Black Sea regions in sectors of energy, transport, economy and digital market, as well as infrastructure projects with potential significance for regional security and faster development.
