The Lithuanian anti-fraud police have launched an investigation into an illegal attempts to obtain nearly €4 million in funding from the European Union and the Lithuanian government for 11 projects.
The agency is investigating 68 Lithuanian and foreign companies as part of the probe. It saidthat more than 40 searches had already been carried out and suspicions had been brought against eight people.
The companies searched are reported to have included Pirmoji Galimybe (formerly known as Bionovus), which is part of Icor Group, and Birzu Zemtiekimas, a company chaired by Viktoras Rinkevicius, current deputy chairman of the Lithuanian Peasant and Green Union1.
