Lithuania‘s parliament has prevented any future privatisation of the armaments factory, Giraitė Munitions Factory, assigning it as an asset of national strategic importance

MPs said that it had been planned to privatise the public company in the near future but that in the present tense geopolitical situation such a move would be a mistake.

Under the new provisions, the Lithuanian state will retain control of over 50% of the stock in the company at all times, and thus retain control of the company even if outside investors are brought in.

Anyone investing in the company will also have to be vetted by national security services.
