Lithuanian army bomb squad finds 2,000 World War Two cannonballs

The ammunition was found in the depth of around 2 meters by workers installing communications.

Working at the scene, Senior Sergeant Laimonas Jočėnas said the ammunition included Oerlikon 22mm cannonballs used by Nazi anti-aircraft defence units at the end of WWII in around 1944. Every ball contained 17 grams of explosive substance.

It’s the first time that so much ammunition of that caliber is found in Klaipėda District.
