Lithuanian army to purchase 340 German trucks for €60m

Mercedes Benz Unimog U5000

The purchase deal for the Unimog trucks was signed last year. Twenty-one vehicles are expected to be delivered to Lithuania by September this year, the rest will be shipped by 2021.

The deal was mediated by NATO Support and Procurement Agency which the Lithuanian Ministry says helped save €18 million.

The new trucks are needed to replace older stock and to serve increased transportation demand at the Lithuanian army.

Lithuania has been significantly raising its defence spending over the last several years, reaching €574 million, or 1.48% of GDP, this year.
