Lithuanian culture minister: National minority law will depend on coalition line-up

Šarūnas Birutis
DELFI / Šarūnas Mažeika

“We will wait for the coalition to be formed and there is more clarity about the participation of the Poles. They are among those with whom it is difficult to agree, and the government’s programme contains certain provisions. After the political council, we will see what their stance is about the participation. Then we will see whether we will have to find compromise with or without them. This is the key issue now,” Birutis told BNS on Monday.

He said there was yet no decision whether the project, which was headed by the then LLRA Culture Vice-Minister, Edvard Trusevič, would be shelved. At the same time, the minister added that the law may lose its relevance, if parliament manages to approve the MP-proposed amendments on national minority rights.
