Birutis referred to the Chief Official Ethics Commission (VTEK) to submit its findings, after the media announced about a possible conflict of public and private interests of deputy minister Erika Furman.
As reported by the daily Lietuvos Žinios, Furman fell under suspicion when a public enterprise Ateities Visuomenės Institutas (Future Society Institute), which she headed before becoming a deputy minister, won the Culture Ministry’s competition valued at LTL 86,000 (EUR 25,000) to prepare the culture sponsorship strategy.
Because of this, Member of Parliament Agnė Bilotaitė, Chair of the parliamentary group For Corruption-free Lithuania, also addressed the VTEK.
