The position has been vacant since February when Lithuania’s then ambassador to Belgium, Gediminas Varvuolis, was transferred to Japan.

Kazragienė began her diplomatic career in 1997 and used to serve as deputy head of the protocol division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as deputy ambassador to the United Nations.

For the past four years, the diplomat has served as an ambassador-at-large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In Lithuania, ambassadors are appointed by the president upon nomination by the government and approval by the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.
