Lithuanian Interior Ministry wants bunkers in all new buildings

Ernestas Trunovas, head of the Civil Security Board, has said the ministry is thinking about revising technical regulations in the light of the geopolitical threats and efforts to enhance civil protection.

“The Ministry of Interior Affairs will seek that the construction regulations put all people and institutions in charge of construction under the obligation of building reinforced premises in buildings and residential houses under construction, which would be adapted for protecting people, not just automobiles or valuables,” Trunovas told BNS.

In 2013, the government listed 1,771 structures as suitable for collective protection, including sports halls, roofed sports centres and stadiums, arenas, underground parking lots and garages, basements of residential buildings, warehouses or storage facilities, etc.
