“The room was full, people made statements, a moment of silence was observed in tribute to the dead soldiers, we read out the list of names of all the deceased, said a prayer for them,” chairwoman of the Lithuanian Jewish Community Faina Kukliansky tells BNS.

She says a servicewoman of the Israeli army who is currently in Vilnius on vacation shared stories about the situation in Israel and how local people reacted to developments in the Palestinian territories.

The event also included a fund-raiser to support Israel’s army financially.

A day earlier, on Tuesday evening, a group of activists held a rally to express support to Palestinians affected by the military stand-off.

Israel is currently continuing an operation launched on 8 July in the Gaza Strip. It says the goal is to stop missile attacks by Hamas against Israel.

Over 570 Palestinians have perished since the beginning of the campaign as well as several dozen Israeli soldiers and two Israeli civilians.
