MP Artūras Paulauskas said the Committee “is partially interested” in Valdas Tutkus‘ opinion about the purchase tender of AFVs. Tutkus has recently resigned as the director of the Lithuanian Defence and Security Industry Association (LGSPA) in relation to the tender. MP Paulauskas, Chair of the Committee, said MPs are not going to engage in technical aspects of the acquisition.
“This is a meeting of experts. The transparency of the purchase is important for us so that we buy the best suited equipment,” Paulauskas told news agency ELTA.
The Ministry of National Defence launched AFV purchase tender in August 2014. Lithuania will acquire approximately 100 AFVs for more than EUR 300 million. Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas has said that the final decision on the acquisition of armoured vehicles may come in late September or October this year. The proposal will also be evaluated by the State Defence Council.
