The tri-national brigade’s combat readiness was certified after the Common Challenge 16 certification exercise, which took place in December.

During the exercise, a multinational certification team identified points of improvement in the procedures and structure of the brigade command and proposed possible solutions.

“These requirements were met and the letter of certification became effective in January 2017,” LITPOLUKRBRIG Commander Colonel Zenon Brzuszko said.

The defence ministers of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine signed an agreement on the establishment of LITPOLUKRBRIG in Warsaw on September 9, 2014. The brigade consists of an international headquarters, three battalions and special-purpose units.

It is planned that the brigade will have between 3,500 and 4,000 soldiers.
