“I can see our relations already improving. This week, the Seimas in Vilnius will host the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Seimas of Lithuania and the Senate of Poland. I believe that our relations with this very important neighbour, our very important strategic partner will get better and better and the election of a new Polish president will not change this trend. We congratulate the president-elect and wish for us, two neighbours, to get along with each other better than before,” said MP Benediktas Juodka, head of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs.

MP Gediminas Kirkilas, the head of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs, noted that the Polish presidential election campaign did not highlight foreign policy affairs at all.

“Ninety percent of the time was devoted to domestic affairs, therefore, it is too early to say how their foreign policy could change,” he said.

Incumbent president Bronislaw Komorowski has conceded defeat in Poland’s presidential election to his rival Andrzej Duda.
