Lithuanian prosecutors drop munitions trafficking suspicions against Belarusian officer

Dmitry Konoplyanik, nuotr.

The Prosecutor General‘s Office said on Tuesday that the suspicions were dropped after witness interviews and other procedural actions in the framework of the investigation did not reveal any evidence to validate the initial suspicions of the persons intentionally trafficking the munitions.

Konoplyanik and his wife, both citizens of Belarus, were detained at the Medininkai checkpoint on the Lithuanian-Belarusian on 21 September after several dozen 9mm Luger munitions were discovered in the examination of their Honda CR-V registered in Belarus.

Prosecutors have said the two Belarusian nationals were returning home from a private visit in Lithuania.
