One of Lithuania’s biggest agricultural companies Kauno grūdai has launched an internal investigation after suspicions arose that former employees could have embezzled value added tax (VAT).
Kauno grūdai insists that the company itself does not participate in tax fraud.
Moreover, the company says it has handed over all documents relating to businesses and transactions requested by the tax authorities and financial fraud investigators.
“In order to further transparency and distance ourselves from the fraud, suspects of which are no longer employed by the company but will have to take responsibility, we have started an internal investigation,” said the company’s vindication project manager Darius Amšiejus.
Eight employees of the company are suspected to have hidden about €389,000 of taxes.
