Lithuania’s consulate general in LA to open in mid-January

The government said the consulate will contribute to increased quality of consular services in western US territories and help develop cultural ties with the local community.

According to the press release, the new consulate will be Lithuania’s first diplomatic mission on the US west coast. According to informal data, more than 10,000 Lithuanian citizens and Americans of Lithuania origin live in Los Angeles alone. The consulate general will provide services to persons living in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Alaska and Hawaii.

In addition to the embassy in Washington D.C., Lithuania also has consulates general in Chicago and New York. The network of Lithuania’s honorary consuls is also growing – the existing 23 honorary consulates should shortly be supplemented by a new one in Richmond, Virginia.
