Lithuania’s dairy and meat producers will not receive compensations from state budget

The Ministry of Agriculture had proposed to compensate LTL 0.3 (EUR 0.08) of buying-in price per litre of milk and LTL 1.5 (EUR 0.43) of buying-in price per kilogramme of meat. LTL 120 million (EUR 35 million) would have been needed to pay out the compensations.

The Government motivated its decision by the fact that allocations were not foreseen in the budget. First of all the Lithuanian Parliament would have to revise the budget which would increase the deficit.

However, the proposal to bring forward advance direct payments for the next year was approved, and LTL 115 million (EUR 33 million) which would have been paid in February-March of 2015 will be paid sooner.
