“With Brazil’s population of 200 million, this market offers outstanding opportunities for Lithuanian businesses. During the meeting, we have already discussed possible cooperation in a number of sectors, such as renewable energy and technology, related to the modernisation of agricultural and industrial technology,” said Bekešius.

Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister also welcomed intensifying political relations between Lithuania and Brazil, and invited his Brazilian counterpart to visit Lithuania.

During the visit, Brazilian officials received a double taxation avoidance agreement, an agreement on the exchange of prisoners, a legal consultation agreement and an agreement on economic cooperation.

“For some time we have aimed to open up the market of Brazil for Lithuanian fish and dairy products. We hope that in the near future and with the help of our Brazilian colleagues we shall get positive answers from Brazil’s competent authorities,” said Lithuania’s deputy minister.

Bekešius also noted that Lithuanian business was not widely known in Brazil yet, therefore, it was necessary to offer specific proposals to the country’s entrepreneurs, who are also looking for new markets.

Lithuania’s deputy foreign minister also met with Maurício Borges, President of APEX-Brazil (Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), Francisco Fontan Pardo, Deputy Head of EU Delegation to Brazil, and visited Žalgiris football players who were playing friendly matches with Brazilian teams.

On 20-21 January, the delegation will continue its visit to São Paulo and will hold meetings the Lithuanian community in Brazil, representatives of the São Paulo governor’s office and heads of the São Paulo city.

In spring 2015, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister will visit Brazil together with business representatives.
