EP Deputy President Dmitirous Papadimoulis officially announced on Thursday that Landsbergis was no longer member of the European legislative and its European People’s Party group.
Landsbergis has decided to give up the seat in order to concentrate on campaigning ahead of Lithuania’s national elections. His Homeland Union has been lagging behind in the polls, with some attributing it to Landsbergis’ underperformance as leader.
His seat at the European Parliament will be taken up by fellow conservative Laima Liucija Andrikienė, who was an MEP between 2004 and 2014.
