“We are planning to complete the terminal in the first days of November, because the Independence is to arrive in Klaipėda at the start of that month,” Butkevičius said on LRT Radio.
Butkevičius, who is in Klaipėda to chair a meeting of a commission in charge of the LNG terminal project implementation, said that with the strategically-important project nearing completion, it is necessary to ensure tighter control of implementation deadlines and quality of work.
“We will also speak about the internal and external security of the facility,” he said.
It is planned that Lithuania will be able to import about 1 billion cubic meters of gas via the terminal in the first year of operation, with the annual capacity to be increased to 4 billion cubic meters in the future.
