LNG terminal construction proceeding as scheduled, Lithuanian PM says

“I have no such signals. It has to be completed it in time and I would not like to hear such signals,” the head of the Government told the journalists on Monday.

Butkevičius is going to travel to Klaipėda on Wednesday to examine the construction work on the LNG terminal. However, according to the prime minister, this certainly does not mean that there are delays to the project.

“The work was not planned to be completed by 1 October. I travel once per month (to Klaipėda – ELTA), and if needed I visit more often, two times per month. I am going to attend a scheduled meeting,” the prime minister indicated.

More than a week ago concrete constructional work of the LNG terminal quay was completed in Klaipėda port. The facility is planned to be finished in the first half of November, the LNG carrier should sail to Klaipėda port by the time.

The LNG terminal has to be completed and start operating in December 2014. The terminal will provide Lithuania with an alternative source of natural gas, which will ensure security and reliability of gas supply. The preliminary cost of the project is approximately LTL 690.6 million (EUR 200 million).
