Medical students, government and NGO representatives are to work out a corruption prevention plan for health services in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian Medical Students Association is organizing a discussion on the issue on Monday.

Sergejus Muravjovas of Transparency International Lithuania says that corruption in the country’s healthcare system has not changed over the last years.

When asked about corruption in the healthcare system, Lithuanians mostly complain about unofficial fees for some services.

Rytis Kalinauskas, president of the Lithuanian Medical Students Association, says the organization is cooperating with government departments and NGOs to come up with a plan to fight corruption in health service.

The effort will involve the Ministry of Healthcare, the Special Investigation Service, doctors’ and medical students’ organizations.
