According to information available to BNS, eight members of the commission voted in favor of this paragraph of the conclusion, one voted against and two abstained.
Bastys faces impeachment due to his ties with certain individuals named in intelligence materials, including Yevgeny Kostin, who is seen as a representative of Rosatom, Piotr Voyeiko, a former KGB agent, Ernest Matskevich, a journalist of the Russian state channel RTR, Saturnas Dubininkas, who is said to be a former Kaunas mafia leader, and Vadim Pakhomov, a businessman suspected of illegal activity.
The lawmaker denies all allegations, describing the impeachment process as political retribution against him and the impeachment committee’s probe as a biased political investigation.
The Seimas has endorsed a conclusion by the parliament’s Committee on National Security and Defense that Bastys acted against the interests of the Lithuanian state and that ties with the individuals named by the State Security Department jeopardized national security.
