New biofuel boiler house opened in Elektrėnai, Lithuania

DELFI / Mindaugas Ažušilis

“Elektrėnai will finally make it to the group of municipalities where thermal energy is produced by using renewable sources and timber resources rather than expensive natural gas. All residents of the town will soon see the advantages of this project when thermal energy prices drop,” he said.

The plant cost EUR 18 million. It has two fluidized bed water heating boilers whose total capacity exceeds 40 MW. Thermal and electrical energy production is separated in the new plant.

“This biofuel boiler house is a good example of adaptation to changing circumstances. Old, no longer efficient and costly plants have been changed by new and very efficient equipment which reduces environmental pollution,” the prime minister said.
