“The changed security situation encourages intensified Nordic-Baltic cooperation. I am confident that the proposals Lithuania and Sweden have prepared will facilitate a more intense dialogue and emergence of practical arrangements, both aimed to strengthen and expand the Nordic-Baltic defence cooperation,” Minister Olekas said.
Olekas also pointed out strengthening the cooperation between NATO and partner countries through joint exercises, enhanced information sharing, and providing opportunities for NATO partner countries to fill in more positions in NATO headquarters.
NB8 defence ministers discussed the prospects of cooperation regarding ongoing and potential international operations.
In a bilateral meeting with Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Norway Ine Eriksen Soereide Minister Olekas discussed Lithuanian-Norwegian cooperation in air defence.
On 11 November defence ministers will discuss security situation in Northern Europe and assistance to Ukraine in the format of the Northern Group.
Meetings of the Nordic-Baltic Eight are attended by Defence ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden, and Head of the Department of Defence of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland. Meetings of the Northern Group also include heads of defence of Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom.
