The convention, which will come into force from July 1, will allow the transfer of child custody rights to relatives who live in another country, according to Rasa Dičpetrienė, the head of the organisation Gelbėkit vaikus.
“Now this has opened the possibility that a child’s care could be provided for in Lithuania, and not in Norway. Imagine the situation that Lithuanian family experiences problems in Norway and the decision is made that the child cannot stay in the family. This step opens up the possibility that the child could return, for example, to Lithuania, to his grandmother,” Dičpetrienė told Žinių Radijas.
