Number of passengers grows in Lithuanian airports, but carried goods decrease

In August 2014 year-on-year, airports handled 18.7 percent less cargo, 0.02 percent less passengers were transported, while Lithuanian airlines carried 20.7 percent less passengers.

In January-August 2014, Lithuania’s airports recorded a total of 2.5 million inbound and outbound passengers, a 10 percent rise compared with the same period of 2013.

Most passengers arrived from and left for the United Kingdom (482,900 passengers or 19 percent of total passengers), Germany (256,400 or 10.1 pct), Norway (190,600 or 7.5 pct), Italy (177,800 or 7 pct), Latvia (139,700 or 5.5 pct) and Denmark (138,600 or 5.4 pct).

In January-August 2014, airports handled 7,900 tonnes of goods and mail or 12.7 percent less than in January-August 2013. 31,400 arrivals and departures of Lithuanian and foreign airlines were recorded throughout the first eight months of 2014, a 12-percent increase year-on-year.

In January-August 2014, Lithuanian airline companies carried 345,100 passengers, 13.7 percent more year-on-year. Revenue passenger kilometres totalled to 666.7 million, i.e. a 9.6-percent growth year-on-year. Lithuanian airline companies carried 497 tonnes of goods and mail, by 27.5 percent less than in January-August 2013.
