“We can’t accept double standards where truth is sought in one case (…) and it’s simply not needed in another. Based on that, we have decided to leave the LRT investigation commission, all three of our members,” Agnė Bilotaitė, a Homeland Union lawmaker, told BNS.
The Seimas decided not to probe the situation in the agricultural sector after discussing, for the third time, the opposition’s move to launch a parliamentary investigation.
The conservative Homeland Union sought such a probe following reports that Agrokoncernas, a company of Ramūnas Karbauskis, the leader of the ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS), uses land owned by his sons, sister, brother and father, thus possibly circumventing the 500-hectare limit on farmland ownership per natural or legal person.
It was proposed that the probe should give answers to 30 questions regarding agricultural land purchases, fertilizer imports from third countries, plant protection products, agricultural machinery sales, and others.
